Disability DVD launched by Golding Vision backed by Baroness Grey-Thompson

Disability Eddie Caroline Tammi

Golding Vision is celebrating its achievements with stakeholders at the House of Lords, to launch an animation DVD about disability, which is backed by Baroness Grey-Thompson, who will host the event on 11 October.

The DVD’s launch is timely, with global awareness of disability, at the forefront of people’s minds following the Paralympic games. ‘Disability Eddie’ is the third animation in the series ‘Eddie and Friends’ that has been funded by Golding Vision in partnership with Wellbeing People as part of an interactive, educational resource aimed at 3-5 year old preschoolers.

Golding Vision is the community arm of Kent housing provider Golding Homes, and was established in 2010 with the aim of improving the life opportunities of its residents and the wider community.

The animation aims to help preschool children to understand and normalise disability with the character Tammi the tortoise (voiced by Baroness Grey-Thompson) who meets Eddie and his friends. Early years professionals have been involved in the project and the script was created in collaboration with the Centre of Independent Living in Kent. The DVD, alongside an educational fun pack, will be rolled out free to more than 60 Maidstone preschools in November.

Baroness Grey-Thompson said,

“It is really great to see such a proactive approach taken by Golding Vision to commission the DVD. It is so important to share and discuss the differences within our society at a young age and I am proud to back a project that works to normalise disability.

“The Paralympics has demonstrated that disability shouldn’t hold back people’s dreams and ambition in sport or personal life and the DVD celebrates this - which is such a positive message for young minds growing up.”

The project celebrates six years of Golding Vision’s work as the community arm of Kent housing provider Golding Homes. It is just one of a number of community projects that Golding Vision has commissioned as part of its annual investment and partnership working to improve the life opportunities of its residents.

Head of Community Development for Golding Vision, Caroline McBride said,

“Through Golding Vision we are able to clearly demonstrate that Golding Homes is more than just ‘bricks and mortar’ and this allows us to differentiate between our role as a landlord and our ‘value added’ community development work.

“With a huge commitment to partnership working, we have been instrumental in bringing together a diverse network of partners to deliver a range of highly successful and innovative community projects.

“We are proud to receive the backing of Baroness Grey-Thompson to celebrate our success today with an afternoon tea at the House of Lords with our key stakeholders.”
