I bought a new build home after the beginning of the financial year (1 April)
If you bought a new build home, it’s quite likely this was part of the way through the financial year. In cases like this we apportion the costs to your purchase date, so you only pay for the time you have owned your home. We then cover the balance for the remainder of the year.
Sometimes there are costs for a period of time such as with external managing agent charges. Their financial years don’t usually match ours, so we not only look at when we incurred the cost, we also look at what period of time it covered. For example, if we received an invoice for services for 1 April to 30 June but you bought your home on 1 July, we would exclude the whole cost from the account. If you bought your home on 1 May we would apportion what we charge to your purchase date.
