Maidstone reopens

Maidstone Town Centre Jubilee Square High Street

As the restrictions for Coronavirus gradually lift, Maidstone Borough Council is reopening many areas.

Maidstone’s towns and villages have been welcoming people back to shops across the borough and are grateful for how people have been observing new measures put in place to keep everyone safe.

In line with social distancing government guidance, the Council introduced new signage and ‘one-way’ systems to allow people to come back and shop in the town centre. Public transport is still running although this is limited and does have restrictions and a reduced capacity in place. Customers must wear a face-covering when travelling on public transport.

Parks, play areas and Cobtree Manor Golf Course will all be open by Saturday 4 July. All areas have been maintained throughout lockdown, they have been regularly cleaned and inspected for safety so are ready to welcome back visitors.

Maidstone Museum in St Faith’s Street will re-open its doors to the public on Tuesday 14 July. The team are looking forward to welcoming people back to the museum, although visitors will see some changes. Social distancing means that a one-way route will be in operation and visitors will be asked to keep a safe space between them and other visitors. Visitors will be encouraged to book their free visit in advance through the museum website: https://museum.maidstone.gov.uk/

Reminder - emergency parking concessions finished on 1 July:  Emergency parking concessions put in place by Maidstone Borough Council in March, at the beginning of the pandemic, finished on 1 July. Householders are being reminded the resident parking bays will become enforceable once again and they will be unable to use the car parks for free.

Don’t lose your right to vote
Maidstone Borough Council is also asking residents to look out for new voter registration forms which will be coming through doors from 1 July. Please read and check these and return them if you are asked to as soon as possible.

With elections taking place in the borough in May 2021, this is an important opportunity for residents to make sure they can take part.

In order to keep the Maidstone Borough Council electoral register up to date, the annual canvass identifies any residents who are not registered so they are added to the local register and are able to vote in any future elections. Make sure your details are up to date so you don’t lose your voice.
