Golding Homes builds new homes on disused garage sites

Garage Site Bicknor Road 2017

Golding Homes is transforming four of its rundown garage sites into new affordable homes

The garage sites, which are based in and around Maidstone, were identified by Golding Homes as suitable areas for redevelopment and will provide much needed new homes for local people. Many of these garage sites were not viable to maintain and have attracted Anti-Social Behaviour.

The four sites have been granted planning permission by Maidstone Borough Council and include Hartnup Street, Francis Lane and Bicknor Road in Maidstone, and The Beacons, Coxheath.

Golding Homes has entered into partnership with two local construction companies DCB (Kent) Ltd and Chartway Construction to develop the four sites, producing in total 18 new homes, 7 new garages and rented parking spaces.

Once built, seven of the homes will be available for affordable rent through the Kent Homechoice system, while the remaining 11 shared ownership and market rent homes will be marketed by Golding Places, the commercial arm of Golding Homes.

DCB (Kent) Ltd will start work on the first garage re-development in Bicknor Road, Park Wood in late 2017, and Chartway Construction will commence in 2018, with a view to completing all the developments by 2019.

Chris Blundell, Golding Homes’ Director of Development and Commercial Services said: “We will not only be providing good quality, comfortable and affordable homes for people but will also be improving the local environment for all the residents living nearby. Good housing is a cornerstone of family life, and we want to ensure that the new residents will have homes they can be proud of.”

Tim McLoughlin, Projects Director at Chartway Group said: “This project is a significant step forward in the creation of a community which will not only complement its surroundings, but which will bring clear benefits to the local neighbourhood.  We are pleased to be working with Golding Homes to delivering a number of new homes and regenerating key areas of Maidstone.”

Paul Baker, Commercial Director for DCB Kent said: “We are pleased to be working in partnership with Golding Homes on these exciting new developments, providing much needed new homes for local people.”
