Inspiring next generation builders

Children from Tree Tops Academy with BBS and Golding Homes

Budding young house builders in Maidstone receive a lesson in construction safety and the benefits of environmentally friendly housing.

Children from Tree Tops Academy in Maidstone were recently treated to a special presentation focusing on home building, by housing provider Golding Homes and construction company, BBS Construction. The two organisations teamed up to talk to pupils about the dangers of building sites and how new homes can be environmentally friendly thanks to solar panels, wind turbines and harvesting rain water.

During the visit, Golding Homes and BBS also launched an exciting competition giving pupils the chance to see their artwork displayed on the hoarding at local development site, Francis Lane in Park Wood. Each year group has been challenged with creating a poster that highlights the dangers of a building site, with the lucky winners having their designs exhibited throughout the period of the build.

Naureen Ullah, Development Manager said: “At Golding Homes we feel it is important to teach children about the dangers of a construction site no matter how interesting and fun it looks to them. The children were so enthusiastic and engaging when asked what they knew about the environment and the dangers of a construction site. Spending time at Tree Tops Academy has given us a wonderful opportunity to engage with the next generation of builders.”

Business Development & Marketing Coordinator for BBS Construction, Karen Alabaster, was delighted to see the positive impact the presentation had on the children, with some trying on the high-visibility waistcoats, hard hats and goggles. She said: “We were delighted to have the opportunity to visit Tree Tops Academy to highlight the importance of site safety, especially as most of the children live close to our construction site on Francis Lane. Each year group has been offered the chance to enter the poster competition and we are very much looking forward to seeing the winning designs. The day proved so successful that both BBS and Golding Homes have been invited to take part in the school’s careers week in March.”

Tree Tops Academy school is situated in Park Wood, the location of the first major regeneration completed by Golding Homes, building 200 modern new homes over three phases. Known as Wallis Fields, the £50m regeneration of Park Wood provided residents with affordable homes and enhanced the area to create a diverse and thriving community.
